Sachet Water Price Set to Rise to GH¢15 Per Bag from April 6

The price of sachet water in Ghana is set to increase from April 6, 2026, following an announcement by the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP). According to the association, a bag of sachet water will now be sold at a maximum retail price of GH¢15, a move that is expected to affect many consumers across the country.

NASPAWAP explained that the new pricing structure includes an ex-factory price of GH¢8 and an ex-truck price of GH¢10 per bag. They are encouraging both retailers and the general public to follow these approved prices to avoid unfair pricing on the market.

The association says the increase is mainly due to the rising cost of production. In particular, the price of polymers used in packaging sachet water has gone up significantly due to a global shortage. This has made it difficult for producers to continue selling at the old price.
They also pointed out that global supply challenges, partly linked to tensions involving Iran, have made raw materials more expensive and harder to access. As a result, producers say they have no choice but to adjust prices in order to keep their businesses running.

Sachet water is widely used in Ghana, especially by people in low-income communities who depend on it for daily drinking water. With this increase, many households are expected to feel the impact, although NASPAWAP insists the decision is necessary to ensure the continuous production and supply of safe drinking water.
